to pay rents. His father come up & bought the entire stock and carried them to Wilmington, (???) made his father prepaid creditor & it took all to pay him. Eugene Morehead & Co. lost $300. by him. I hope to rent the store in a few days at $50.00 per month. The merchantdise (Correction: merchandise) business is at a low "eb (Correction: ebb)" here now, rents have fallen very much. If there is not a good crop made this year, "the thing will be slung," I am afraid. Crops are good in this section so far. We hope to start some new enterprises here soon. When will you return? Write me often & long letters. Guess you want to see your "girl" - Don't you? Come home in August & stay. Locate in Durham & build that "cotton factory" - Exum is about decided to go to Chatanoga (Correction: Chattanooga), Tenn. Wish you would write him and get him out of the notion. Fuller says tell you to keep him here if you can. Exum says if you would build a cotton factory & give him a situation that would pay something he would stay & put $10,000 Dollars in it with you, and then he might get married. Please write him & try & get him not to go to Tenn. until you return & if you expect to go in to the cotton factory business, try & get him to go in to it with you. I think he is a little sick of the "law." With best wishes for your success & a speady (Correction: speedy) return to your old home - Durham, I am,

your friend

R. I. Rogers
